This week the Varsity Reds announced the co-chairs of the 2011 and 2012 Canadian Interuniversity Sport Men's Hockey Championship.

Llyod Henderson, the executive director of UNB’s College of Extended Learning, was introduced as a co-chair alongside Roger Shannon, who will be focusing on "hockey operations".

Shannon is more than qualified for this position, being the General Manager of the Lewiston Maineiacs of the QMJHL as well the UNB Varsity Reds.

“I am excited to have been asked once again to Chair the Nationals here in our home rink. It’s hard to believe where the time goes and that we are doing it all again,” said Shannon.

“The City of Fredericton is so fortunate to have the championship back for two more years. All of the direct and indirect spin-off is well deserved by our business community, and it gives us the opportunity to show the warm hospitality and energy Fredericton exudes. I know the citizens of Fredericton and the UNB community will do our city proud; as always.”

Both were involved in the 2003 and 2004 championships hosted at UNB, bringing invaluable knowledge of these tasks to the table.

“We are delighted that Lloyd and Roger have agreed to provide their leadership by co-chairing this event,” said Varsity Reds Athletic Director Kevin Dickie. "Roger chaired the event in 2003 and 2004, and Lloyd was an invaluable member of the Steering Committee."

"They have the knowledge and the desire to make the 2011 and 2012 championship the best it can be. I have enjoyed my association with both of them over the years, and sincerely appreciate their passion for our Varsity Reds Program.”

Continuing their support of the University Cup, Cavendish Farms was announced as the Title Sponsor Wednesday followed by the announcement that Varsity Red partner, The Home Depot will be the Presenting Sponsor of the event for the next two years.

The logo was also revealed Wednesday, working both companies into the design.

Tickets go on sale for the University Cup June 1-15 for returning season pass holders, followed by a period from June 16 to July 14 when packages for all event passes coupled with the University Cup package will be on sale. Full event packages strictly for the event will go on sale beginning July 15 for $140.
