The UNB Student Union’s Move Out Madness was deemed a success as it raised roughly $1200 for Haiti.
Ryan Brideau, vice president external with the SU, was extremely pleased with the outcome of the event.
“It was absolutely fantastic,” said Brideau.
The event allowed students and the public to donate their unneeded furniture in order for it to be sold to those in need. It’s a yard sale of sorts that is cheaper and more environmentally friendly than sending the furniture to the dump or burning it on the side of the road.
When asked if the SU was going to continue this annual event next year, Brideau mentioned that there’s a very good chance.
“That’s the plan; it seems to be a high demand event. A lot of the public came out and a lot of students came out, and so as long as it keeps picking up like this, were willing to put it on again next year.”
This year marked the third year Move-Out Madness was held and the event sold over 70 items in the process. The remaining furniture will go to New Brunswick community living. All the money collected went to the UNBSU’s Haiti fundraiser.
